What you'll be doing
The candidate will participate in the assignment of the Group validating models used in the valuation and risk measurement of financial portfolios, assets, and instruments, as well as the formulation of input and output information from the global energy markets. The role is based in London, Houston, Singapore, or Bangalore.
The analyst bridges seven areas:
Assessment that a model is “fit for purpose”Analysis of model algorithms applying validation techniques, including challenger models internally built or externally procuredReview of process underlying a model, including inputs and outputs flowsDetermination of adjustments to mitigate model weaknessesMaintenance and extension of the Model Validation policyInventory of models used within and outside the Risk Management Function (RMF)Collection of code and documentation for successive model versionsActivities involve collaboration with professionals at three levels:
The Senior Analyst investigates the conceptual underpinnings and audits embedded algorithms for limitations and remediations.The Engineer considers application cases and formulates test scripts to verify proper input usage and output understanding.The Junior Analyst compiles information and executes test scripts.Engagement with external stakeholders, including other RMF groups, traders, originators, structurers, and IT departments, is significant.
The role also involves educational efforts across RMF and the firm.
The skills required include:
- Application of advanced financial mathematics for valuation and risk measurement of exotic derivatives and assets like natural gas, oil storage, LNG, freight cargos, and power generation, including portfolio metrics such as VaR, PFE, and economic capital.
- Industry experience in structuring and balancing deals and portfolios, selecting appropriate modeling inputs and parameters.
- Proficiency in analyzing code and building challenger models using software tools.
- Data analysis techniques for data extraction, transformation, and interfacing from corporate systems.
- Effective communication of model implications to management and quantitative specialists.
What you bring
- A degree in business administration, finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, or information systems (bachelor's for Technician, master's to PhD for Engineer and Scientist).
- Knowledge of energy markets, including natural gas, power, emissions, oil, and LNG.
- Experience in risk management within the energy industry is preferred.
- Certifications such as CQF, ERP, FRM are welcomed.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing requirements.
- Teamwork and communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical ideas.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams, SQL, VBA, C#, .Net, and analytical languages like Python, R, MATLAB, or SAS.
- Experience with visualization and energy trading systems.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms like Azure and AWS.
