Associate Director - Private Equity

Zurich Alternative Asset Management (New York, NY) seeks an Associate Director – Private Equity responsible for making decisions on Zurich's vital investment portfolios on an international level that will improve ZAAM's competitiveness and contribute to the expansion of Zurich Insurance Group's international business in the U.S. and worldwide.

Overview

Specific duties include: source investment opportunities for PE program (15%); support deal leader and lead / co-lead, where necessary, on the analysis of the investment opportunities (20%); support deal leader on diligence topics formulation for external meeting discussions and in negotiation of documents (10%); support the development of theses and risks of investment opportunity (10%); actively participate in the drafting of investment materials to be presented to the investment committee (15%); initiate, develop and maintain appropriate tools for portfolio monitoring, market intelligence, and related analysis (10%); employ thesis-driven approach to identifying areas for potential investment consideration through research / thesis building (10%); represent ZAAM PE in structured meetings (5%); and support investment mandate set-ups, authoring documentation for review by senior Zurich executives, and outbound calling efforts (5%). Position requires 50% travel, both domestically and internationally. Option to work remotely with a requirement to be in the NY office three times per week.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain tools for portfolio monitoring, market intelligence, and related analysis (10%).
  • Apply a thesis-driven approach to identify potential investment areas through research and thesis building (10%).
  • Represent ZAAM PE in structured meetings (5%).
  • Assist with investment mandate setups and prepare documentation for review by senior Zurich executives; engage in outbound calling as needed (5%).
  • Travel up to 50% domestically and internationally; option to work remotely with NY office in-person requirement three times per week.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Finance, Financial Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field; 5 years of experience in related roles (e.g., Associate – Private Equity, Equity Portfolio Manager, Senior Equity Analyst, or similar investment research position).
  • Experience in at least three of the following areas: private equity; institutional asset management; research or advisory firms; insurance companies; investment banking; management consulting; or alternative investments (2+ years).
  • Experience with: financial, accounting, and valuation analyses; three-statement financial modeling in Excel; LP fund cash flow modeling and public-market-equivalent analyses; private equity investment program sensitivities.
  • Experience leading or co-leading due diligence, value creation analyses, and reference calls of private equity fund managers or transactions; presenting transactions to investment committees and securing approvals for multiple private equity transactions (funds, co-investments, or secondaries).
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating terms related to private equity partnerships and side letters or shareholder agreements.
  • Data visualization experience using Microsoft PowerBI and creating custom visualizations.
  • Experience with private equity systems and tools (e.g., Dynamo, Burgiss, Cambridge Associates, Preqin, Capital IQ, PitchBook, Bloomberg, Crunchbase).
  • Experience presenting investment reports or analyses to internal or external clients or at industry events.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time; remote work with NY office three times per week.
Compensation and Benefits

Full time position. Compensation details: salary range stated as $227,000; compensation influenced by location, role, skill set, and experience; Zurich provides a Total Rewards program including benefits and potential bonuses. See local policies for details.
