We are currently searching for a skilled Gardener to support the delivery of high-quality horticultural and grounds maintenance services across the district. This role contributes to cleaner, safer, and greener public spaces, enhancing community pride and environmental quality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver grounds maintenance services to Council standards.
• Operate and maintain a range of grounds maintenance machinery and equipment.
• Undertake horticultural tasks including planting, pitch marking, pest control, and general upkeep.
• Provide guidance to Assistant Gardeners and work independently as required.
• Respond to emergency incidents and support seasonal operations (e.g. winter gritting, clean-ups).
• Work flexibly across teams and locations, supporting other services when needed.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and Council policies.
• Maintain accurate records and complete operational paperwork.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in grounds maintenance.
• Skilled use of tools and equipment relevant to horticultural tasks.
• Ability to carry out strenuous tasks in all weather conditions.
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
• Alertness and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications (Essential/Desirable):

• NVQ Level 1 / City & Guilds 1 or equivalent.
• PA1 and PA6 Pesticide Application Certificate (Knapsack).
• Basic First Aid and Health & Safety Awareness.
• Full clean UK Driving Licence (Category B + E) with no more than 6 penalty points.

Additional Information:

• The postholder will be responsible for vehicles, trailers, mowers, and small plant equipment.
• Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Seasonal working and participation in emergency response may be required.
• Enhanced DBS check required (a conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment).
