About The Position

The GIS Assistant's primary purpose is to provide mapping and facility asset management for the District's Geographic Information System (GIS) and work order management systems. This is a part-time, non-remote position located at our Chehalis, WA location. Rate of pay depends on experience and/or qualification.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

  • Assist in the maintenance of the District's specialized and dedicated GIS, work design, work order software, and integrated systems.
  • Maintain and validate the data integrity and accuracy of the District's GIS and work order management systems with respect to easement information, customer data, electrical facilities and equipment by reconciling, editing, and entering information gathered from various District documents, processes, employees and outside agencies. Validating data may involve research in the field or in the office.
  • Enter new map data using hard copy graphics, such as as-builts, CAD drawings, or digitally created job maps as well as through digitizing and data entry.
  • Support the District's electric distribution analysis by creating, modifying, and updating the electrical database network model.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of related office and field equipment, such as GPS, mobile devices, digital cameras, and plotter printers.
  • Assist in the improvement of process workflow, manpower efficiencies, and software utilization for system management. May assist in research, evaluation, and further development of integrated data management systems.
  • Work cooperatively and jointly with personnel from all departments and outside agencies. Serves as a technical resource for the GIS software and workflows.
  • Performs task as assigned by the GIS Supervisor to help the District meet goals and expectations.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma required; Associate degree is preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with GIS systems, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations: None.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word. Experience with ESRI, relational database management, and Internet-based applications preferred.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to walk, climb stairs, bend, reach, use hands to finger, handle, and feel, and sit for extended periods of time. Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Required to speak and hear clearly when communicating over the telephone and in person.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to indoor and outdoor environments. Outdoor settings include all types of property and site conditions including open spaces, timberlands, urban developments, flat and hilly terrain, building construction sites, and road rights-of-way. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
