Overview

In support of the Office of Community and Connection's commitment to the University of Maine's entire student body, the Coordinator for the Center provides essential leadership and program management. The Center is dedicated to supporting the holistic development of all students by fostering a welcoming and supportive campus environment.

Responsibilities
  • The Coordinator will develop and implement a wide range of social and educational programs.
  • Co-manage a professional mentorship program.
  • Provide direct support and advocacy for all students.
  • This role involves the direct supervision of student staff, managing early alerts through Navigate, and overseeing the daily operations of the center.
  • Working collaboratively with the Director and other university departments, the Coordinator is responsible for creating opportunities for student engagement and fostering an environment where all students experience a profound sense of belonging as a valued part of the university community.

Typical hiring range for this 11-month work year (August 1 - June 30) position is $39,000 - $41,250 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors degree required, masters preferred in Higher Education, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a welcoming and supportive campus environment for all students.
  • Experience working with students on a college campus and strong desire to work with students from all backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding the various challenges and opportunities students encounter in a college setting.
  • Must have experience in creating and implementing programs.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Excellent leadership, organization, management, and administrative skills.
  • Must have a caring and compassionate student-centered philosophy.
  • Must have an enthusiastic and innovative approach to student development and programming.
  • Ability to think critically, problem-solve, and make sound decisions.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing programs that promote student engagement and build community.
  • Demonstrated experience in student advocacy and promoting access to university resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in student group advising.
  • Demonstrated success in program development and planning large-scale events.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional and collaborative relationships with faculty/staff, students, parents, and community members.
