Overview

Salary Grade: NC08 Salary Range: $37,782 - 66,120. This position is located in the Charlotte IRP office.

Responsibilities
  • Provide customer-friendly, courteous, and informative services to the general public and IRP customers.
  • Assist IRP customers with opening new accounts, renewals, supplements, updating insurance, turning in tags, and collecting payments (including 2290s - Federal Heavy Use Tax) and confirming payments for yearly renewals, Hires and Supplements.
  • Update name changes for individuals and business entities and handle transferring plates and/or title work.
  • Review City, State, and Federal documents; explain proof of residency requirements to customers; review fraudulent or altered materials; verify proof of residency with utility companies as needed.
  • Review lease agreements and insurance certificates to ensure compliance with IRP international requirements.
  • Respond to telephone and email inquiries from customers, insurance companies, the public, and motor carrier authorities.
  • Process incoming mail from customers and respond to renewal packets and submitted payments.
  • Review websites of the North Carolina Secretary of State, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and cross-reference USDOT and Motor Carrier numbers.
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding Unified Carrier Reg (UCR) and International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) and provide contact information as needed.
  • Maintain a detailed and accurate accounting of all cash, checks, money orders, and credit/debit card transactions; balance and reconcile the cash drawer at the end of each workday.
  • Conduct all title work and other transactions pursuant to the Motor Vehicle General Statutes, DMV rules and regulations, and the Privacy Protection Act.
  • Receive and review state and out-of-state financial packages utilized by IRP customers to purchase/lease motor vehicles.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Technical and administrative skills with extensive knowledge of the North Carolina General Statutes, policies and procedures, and regulations governing NC title issuance and other credentials.
  • Working knowledge of the International Registration Plan Unit and vehicle title/registrations; DMV customer service experience; experience applying or explaining Motor Vehicle General Statutes and DMV rules and regulations.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications and/or mainframe databases; experience in customer service dealing with a diverse clientele; ability to explain information in relation to laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating information or data; experience reviewing information to determine compliance with applicable laws to resolve complex processing matters.
  • Experience in balancing a cash drawer.
Education
