Job Description Summary The Academic Program Specialist for the Office of English Undergraduate Studies provides customer service and administrative support to the Director and Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies, academic advising staff, and current and prospective English majors and minors. Serving as a point of resolution for the daily operations of Student Services, the Academic Program Specialist's duties include, but are not limited to: 1. Using professional judgment to respond to internal and external customer inquiries and concerns through e-mail, telephone, and other correspondence 2. Organizing and maintaining the appointment schedules for the academic advising staff using online scheduling software 3. Assisting with confidential and sensitive student record activities, undergraduate commencement ceremonies, and membership/record maintenance for the student group Sigma Tau Delta 4. Assisting the Director of English Honors with tracking student progress and course permissions 5.Selecting, training, and supervising up to three student employees 6. Assisting with all aspects of the Learning Outcomes Assessment process 7. Maintaining student listservs, creating and posting flyers for events of interest to students, and compiling a weekly undergraduate student e-newsletter The position's fixed work schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree AND One year experience in administrative staff work in which program coordination in a directly related field was a primary responsibility. OTHER: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. English regularly hosts readings by poets and novelists; colloquium, symposia, guest lectures and national and international conferences featuring distinguished scholars; as well as discussion groups for students and alumni and play readings and performances. Our majors are encouraged to explore a range of careers through internships, such as with the Maryland General Assembly and the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities. We have a robust alumni program, ensuring continuity between currently enrolled students and those who have gone on to successful careers in marketing, law, medicine, IT, and higher education.
