  • Bachelor's degree in studio art, art history, arts management, museum studies, or related field
  • Two years working in art galleries, museums, or other exhibition spaces or related experience
  • Demonstrated art handling experience
  • The ability to lift 50 to 75 pounds
  • The capacity to work comfortably at heights up to 40 feet
  • The ability to stay on task whether working independently or with a group
  • The ability to work with a team
  • Interior painting experience
License/Certification RequiredEssential Job Functions The Exhibition Assistant III is a 30 - 40 hour a week non-student temporary position through February 6, 2026 at The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University. Exhibition Assistants must be interested in the visual arts and have two years' experience working in art galleries, museums of other exhibition spaces. The Exhibition Assistant III reports directly to the Senior Curator at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, part of the Office of Arts Engagement and Cultural Resources. As a curatorial technician position at Appalachian State University, this position is instrumental to the implementation of the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts' exhibition program through participation in all aspects of preparation and installation/de-installation. Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated participation in the coordination and implementation of exhibitions using museum best practices
  • Demonstrates a high level of organization, communication, and time management skills
  • Experiences with installation of site-specific and new media installations
  • Experience working with living artists,
  • Strong administrative skills taking direction and working independently
Work Schedule/Hours Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00, for 30-40 hours, depending on exhibition schedule. Exact schedule to be worked out with immediate supervisor. Occasional evening hours during exhibition openings, ArtTalks, and related programming. Number of Hours Per Week 30+ Number of Months Per Year 5 Mandatory Staff No Physical Demands of Position Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 50-75 lbs. and work comfortably at heights up to 40 feet.
