Job Description
The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) plays a critical role in the recovery of patients post-surgery. This unit encompasses combined Phase I and Phase II recovery, with a primary focus on adult patients, while accommodating pediatric patients monthly for ENT surgery blocks.
Responsibilities
- Provide care in a high-acuity environment, specifically for patients recovering from general, orthopedic, plastic, urological, and gynecological surgeries.
- Monitor patient recovery using Phillips Monitoring System and Aldrete Post-Anesthesia Scoring tools.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort in accordance with ASPAN/AORN guidelines, managing RN-to-patient ratios as appropriate for patient stability.
- Administer moderate sedation or monitored anesthesia care (MAC) when required.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including techs, aides, and respiratory therapists to support patient care.
- Respond to call requirements approximately once per week following facility guidelines.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Current ACLS and PALS certifications required.
- Nursing license must be verified through Nursys for onboarding.
- Familiarity with ventilator/intubation management is not required, as PACU nurses do not manage ventilated or intubated patients.
