About the Opportunity:

Ultimate Staffing is assisting our amazing property management client, a well-established and growing firm based in the Bronx, in their search for an experienced Compliance Specialist to join their team. This is a direct hire opportunity with a company that is passionate about providing quality housing and exceptional service throughout New York City.

The Compliance Specialist will play a key role in ensuring all company operations adhere to relevant housing laws and regulations at the city, state, and federal levels. This position requires deep knowledge of NYC property management practices, a sharp eye for detail, and strong leadership skills to support policy development, training, audits, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal property management regulations, including Fair Housing, Rent Stabilization, and HPD/HCR rules.

Monitor new and existing regulatory developments; interpret and communicate updates as needed.

Stay current with NYC housing guidelines, codes, and ordinances impacting the Bronx and broader New York City area.

Policy Development & Implementation

Develop, review, and update internal compliance policies and procedures.

Partner with executive leadership to implement policies that uphold legal and ethical standards across the organization.

Training & Education

Design and deliver ongoing compliance training to internal staff (property managers, leasing agents, admin, etc.).

Provide direct guidance to team members on compliance best practices and legal requirements.

Auditing & Reporting

Conduct regular audits of tenant files, leasing documentation, and operational procedures.

Prepare reports for leadership detailing compliance metrics, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

Maintain thorough and organized records of compliance checks, audits, and regulatory reviews.

Risk Management & Legal Interface

Identify areas of compliance risk and collaborate with internal and external legal counsel to mitigate exposure.

Respond to compliance-related issues, tenant disputes, or agency inquiries.

Serve as the primary contact for regulatory inspections, audits, or investigations.

Licensing & Certifications Oversight

Track and ensure renewal of all required certifications, licenses, and regulatory filings.

Maintain up-to-date records with HPD, DHCR, and other relevant agencies.

Vendor & Contractor Compliance

Verify all third-party vendors and contractors meet legal and compliance standards.

Review service agreements for regulatory adherence and contractual compliance.

Environmental & Safety Compliance

Ensure all properties meet environmental safety standards (e.g., waste disposal, energy efficiency, water usage).

Conduct inspections and follow up on corrective actions as needed.

Qualifications:

3-5 years of compliance experience in property management or real estate operations (NYC experience required).

Strong knowledge of New York housing regulations, including HPD, HCR, Fair Housing, Rent Stabilization, and DHCR protocols.

Experience developing training and compliance programs for multifamily housing or affordable housing portfolios.

Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Familiarity with Yardi, MRI, or other property management software is a plus.
