Position Overview

North Central Bronx Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse with wound care expertise to provide specialized assessment, treatment, and education related to wounds, ostomies, continence, and complex wound management. The nurse will conduct comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams. This role includes staff education, quality improvement initiatives, and resource management to optimize patient outcomes.

Certifications & Requirements

RN License: Active New York State RN License with Primary Source Verification from NYSED – RequiredCertifications:

  • AHA BLS – Required
  • Current certification in one of the following wound care certifications – Required:
    • Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) – WOCNCB
    • Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) – WOCNCB
    • Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) – WOCNCB
    • Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) – ABWM
    • Wound Care Certified Certification (WCC) – NAWCO
Experience Required
  • Minimum 2 years Med/Surg nursing experience – Required
  • Experience in wound and colostomy care – Required
  • Travel nursing experience not required; first-time travelers welcome
Skills & Competencies
  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments focused on wounds, ostomies, continence, and fistulas
  • Develop, revise, and evaluate wound care standards of practice
  • Assess and document patient response to treatments and adjust care plans accordingly
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams and make referrals as necessary
  • Provide patient, family, and staff education on wound prevention, care, and management
  • Participate in quality improvement activities including incidence and prevalence studies
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to patient rights policies
  • Demonstrate cultural competence in patient and staff education
  • Manage rented specialty equipment such as beds and Negative Pressure Wound Therapy devices
  • Escalate ethical and conflict issues appropriately
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills
