The Axel Group is seeking an experienced and motivated Survey Party Chief to lead field survey operations for boundary, topographic, construction, and ALTA/NSPS surveys.

The ideal Survey Party Chief will be responsible for the efficient and accurate execution of field work, managing field crews, ensuring safety, and delivering high-quality data to support engineering, environmental, and land development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a field survey crew as Survey Party Chief, performing a variety of land surveying tasks in the field.
- Conduct boundary, topographic, construction layout, and ALTA/NSPS surveys as the Survey Party Chief, overseeing field operations.
- Operate and maintain survey instruments, including total stations, GPS equipment, data collectors, levels, and robotic instruments, while ensuring proper use by your field survey crew.
- Ensure that all field data is collected accurately under your leadership as Survey Party Chief, in accordance with project requirements and company standards.
- Document fieldwork thoroughly and prepare daily field reports.
- Act as the key point of contact between your field survey crew, office staff, project managers, and clients regarding progress, issues, and project needs.
- Ensure the safety of your field survey crew and enforce adherence to company and client safety policies.
- Train and mentor junior field staff or instrument operators, sharing your expertise in field operations.
Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in land surveying, with a proven track record in field operations.
- Proficient in operating survey equipment such as Trimble, Leica, or Topcon GPS and total stations, with a focus on leading a field survey crew.
- Strong understanding of field procedures, data collection, and field calculations, essential for effective Survey Party Chief operations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and legal property descriptions, crucial for field surveys conducted by a Survey Party Chief.
- Experience with construction stakeout, boundary surveys, and topographic surveys, demonstrating expertise in field surveying.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record for travel to field locations.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain, essential for the Survey Party Chief role in the field.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, key to success in field operations.
- Experience with field software (e.g., Trimble, Carlson SurvCE) is a plus.
Preferred Skills/Certifications:
- UAS (drone) experience and FAA Part 107 Certification (optional but a plus)
- Construction and environmental site and field experience
