Gallery Overview:
Level & Co. is a secondary market gallery specializing in Post-War and Contemporary art from abstract expressionism to neo-expressionism to 21st-century masters. We work with “top 500” collectors to acquire and sell works, usually over a $1mm price point. We are also the exclusive seller for Masterworks inventory, representing over $1-2 billion across 500 different paintings.
Position Overview:
We are hiring a Business Director to serve as the strategic and operational partner to the President. This senior-level role is responsible for overseeing the gallery's internal operations, team management, financial planning, marketing, curatorial planning, and execution of key business initiatives. You will be responsible for owning and expanding the gallery's operations.
The ideal candidate brings strong leadership experience from an auction house, gallery, or high-growth fine art company and thrives in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Team & Leadership
- Manage and coach a high-performing specialist team and own operational functions
- Lead hiring of senior and mid-level specialists, onboarding, and professional development
- Uphold a culture of accountability, clear metric tracking, and productivity management
Sales & Pipeline Oversight
- Oversee the gallery's deal pipeline and sales activity in HubSpot CRM
- Set and own revenue targets and track to monthly business goals
- Partner with President on strategy to drive top-line sales growth for the gallery
Deal Execution & Operations
- Oversee consignment agreements, insurance, invoicing, and compliance
- Build and optimize operational workflows for seamless deal execution
- Coordinate with partners in legal, finance, and logistics
Financial Planning & Reporting
- Own budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance tracking
- Analyze gallery-level P&L and recommend improvements
- Support board and investor reporting as needed
Strategic Project Management
- Coordinate cross-functional execution of exhibitions, marketing campaigns, and events
- Ensure alignment of operational execution with company goals
- Lead special projects and business initiatives at the direction of the CEO
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in business operations, strategy, or general management
- Strong leadership experience, including managing sales or specialist teams
- Track record of success in a gallery or auction house
- Financial fluency: P&L ownership, modeling, budgeting, forecasting
- Experience with HubSpot or comparable CRM platforms
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills
- Relentlessly resourceful, systems-minded, and execution-oriented
Additional Requirements:
- Must be based in NYC and available to work in-office at our Upper East Side location
