Job Description :

Waypoint Bio is a venture-backed biotech startup building the next generation of cell therapies for solid tumors and autoimmune diseases. Joining our team means working with a group of innovative and collaborative scientists who share the mission of bringing the promise of immune cell therapy to all cancer patients.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and enthusiastic individual who is motivated to develop scientific knowledge and skills while providing extensive technical support. In this role, you will join our team to contribute to spatial biology and microscopy R&D at our lab at the Alexandria Center for Life Science in New York (430 E 29th St).

In this position, you will have the opportunity to learn and implement wide-ranging techniques in genomics technology development, molecular biology, and immunology alongside a team of multi-disciplinary scientists.

Time Commitment:

You may be a good fit for this role if you can commit at least 30 hours/week. Please detail your availability in your application.

Education Requirements:

  • Recent graduates of BS and/or graduate school programs, OR individuals with MS or PhD degree in progress
  • Focus in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Cancer Biology, or a related field

Key Duties Include:

  • Perform cell culture with a variety of cancer cell lines, primary cell lines, and immune cell types.
  • Genetically modify human cells using lentivirus and site-specific genetic insertions.
  • Gibson cloning to generate new DNA constructs.
  • Isolate RNA and DNA from mammalian cells for downstream molecular biology workflows.
  • Develop and write scientific protocols, analyze data, and communicate experimental results
  • Record experiments and results clearly in an electronic lab notebook.
  • Contribute to general laboratory operations and organization, such as maintaining equipment, reagents, and supplies.
  • Provide conceptual input on experimental design and interpretation in a team setting

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong technical skills in cell culture including expanding and maintaining primary cell lines, genetically modifying mammalian cells, and sterile technique.
  • Proficiency in molecular cloning techniques such as PCR, bacterial transformation, DNA isolation and purification, gel electrophoresis, and gibson assembly.
  • Enthusiasm for taking initiative on a range of responsibilities
  • Ability to learn quickly, prioritize multiple tasks in accordance with changing responsibilities, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and organizational skills to work collaboratively
  • Plus: Hands-on experience using fluorescence microscopy for detection of proteins, nucleic acids, or other biological molecules
  • Plus: Knowledge of immunology and/or cancer biology

About Waypoint Bio:

Traditional cell therapy development faces a trade-off between in vitro approaches that are fast but inaccurate, and in vivo approaches that are accurate but slow and expensive. Waypoint has built a proprietary spatial biology & machine learning platform that enables pooled cell therapy screens in vivo - profiling how hundreds of designs affect a solid tumor in a single mouse, while measuring each design's performance across distinct clinically-relevant parameters. This high-throughput approach compresses years of work into a single experiment by achieving 100x the throughput of conventional animal experiments.
