In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.# **What you will be doing****Director of Operational Excellence**Operational Excellence (OE) at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is charged with optimizing quality, efficiency, and performance across the enterprise, enabling continued success for the organization and ensuring an optimal patient experience. The OE team thinks beyond what's expected, from simplifying patient registration and decreasing operating room turnover time to streamlining the discharge process. The OE department is highly visible, collaborating closely with the HSS executive team and other clinical and business leaders throughout the organization. As a part of this team, you'll be an essential resource, helping our hospital stay on top of our game, so we can ensure our patients do the same.**Job Summary:**The **Director of Operational Excellence & Enterprise PMO** (EPMO) will establish and manage a centralized Project Management Office, ensuring seamless cross-functional project prioritization and supporting business process improvements. The Director will report directly to the Vice President of Operational Excellence & Operations.The Director will own and drive projects to completion with specific tasks including but not limited to: development and presentation of leadership-ready materials, design of change management and communication plans, facilitation of discussions with multiple stakeholders, design and execution of analytics, and building complex models to inform decision-making and performance improvement. To this end, the Director will leverage analytical, strategic planning, project management, change management, and communication skills to ensure project success.**Key Responsibilities:****Enterprise PMO Establishment and Leadership*** Build a robust enterprise PMO (EPMO) from the ground up, defining frameworks, standards, and best practices for project and portfolio oversight across departments.* Ensure effective prioritization and resource allocation for Project Management, IT, Finance, and other operational teams in alignment with business strategy.* Design and champion organizational change—including communication and transition plans—to ensure adoption and sustainability of new processes and structures.* Develop and deliver training for staff and establish standard practices to ensure consistent, organization-wide adoption of project management approaches.**Cross-Functional Prioritization*** Facilitate strategic prioritization and resource allocation across multi-disciplinary teams aligned with HSS' strategic roadmap.* Develop and maintain visibility into project priorities, progress, and resource utilization, ensuring optimal alignment and impact.**Continuous Improvement Leadership*** Identify inefficiencies and gaps in current workflows, proposing and implementing sustainable, data-driven improvements. Measure, track, and report on the impact of new processes, ensuring intended outcomes are achieved.* Design, launch, and oversee an internal residency program to build project management and operational excellence capabilities inside of Operations team—establishing program governance, rotational assignments, immersive learning experiences, and ongoing evaluation to foster cross-functional collaboration, talent development, and knowledge sharing across the organization.* Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization by training, coaching, and mentoring staff at all levels on improvement methodologies and mindsets (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).* Design and deliver workshops, training sessions, and hands-on support to embed continuous improvement capabilities within all operational teams.* Act as an internal consultant, empowering functional leaders and teams to proactively identify and solve process challenges.**Change Management*** Design and champion organizational change initiatives, including communication and transition plans, to ensure adoption and sustainability of new processes and structures.**Stakeholder Management & Communication*** Serve as the principal point of contact for PMO and operational excellence initiatives, ensuring leadership engagement while minimizing disruptions for operational teams.* Produce executive-ready deliverables and reports to drive decision-making and maintain alignment with the organization's strategic direction.**Education- Required:*** Bachelor's degree (BA)* Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master's, PhD in Management, operations or related topics**Skills & Experience – Required:*** 8+ years in operational excellence/PMO leadership (matrixed or complex organizations). Extensive experience in PMO creation, partnership planning/integration, SME coordination, and process improvement* Experience in healthcare or hospital operations consulting* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effectively communicates with various departments to disseminate and receive information as requested* Experience designing impactful change management and communication programs* Experience leading and facilitating meetings with effective outcomes* Working knowledge of various software and spreadsheet applications used in process mapping, process design, and work-flow management (e.g., MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)* Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines in an environment of constant change with a continuous improvement mindset* High emotional intelligence and ability to collaborate with both clinical and administrative stakeholders* Possesses an excitement for change* Ability to acquire skills and knowledge effectively and efficiently* Ability to influence people, build relationships and collaborate* Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality deliverables in a consistent manner* Knowledge of process improvement methodologies**Skills & Experience – Preferred*** Experience in designing and implementing complex analyses, tailoring communication of findings to stakeholders* Experience in coaching junior team members through complex tasks, improving the quality of their deliverables, and being a trusted mentor to junior team members* Experience working in healthcare systems and hospitals, deep knowledge in hospital operations* Familiarity with Epic EMR**Lifestyle and Work Environment**HSS is the premier#J-18808-Ljbffr
