Groundskeeper I/II, Bucknell University Golf Course

Bucknell University is currently accepting applications for a Golf Course Groundskeeper I or II. This position is responsible for performing routine manual work to maintain the golf course and other campus grounds as needed. Duties include seeding, fertilizing, watering, mowing, spraying, landscaping, and general cleanup. The role also involves operating and maintaining the irrigation system, aerating soil, applying pesticides and fertilizers, and performing minor maintenance on mowers and other equipment.

Groundskeeper II: May serve as a lead over other staff members and may be responsible for training, scheduling, or assigning work. May recommend the following to the direct supervisor: staff hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provides input on staff performance evaluations.

Work setting: On-campus; Ability to work in varying weather conditions

Work schedule: Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime, to support the Golf Club's seven-day-a-week operations during the playing season

What You Will Do

Maintains golf course landscape, including: mowing, aerating, seeding, sodding, and irrigation.

Applies fertilizers, insecticides, and fungicides.

Assists in coordinating the golf course fertilizer and pesticide programs, including: assistance in maintaining inventory of pesticides, fertilizers, seed, and other landscape products.

Maintains assigned equipment including sharpening blades, lubricants, filters, belts, and irrigation systems.

Operates small and large equipment such as mowers, aerators, sprayers, fertilizer spreaders, tractors, front-end loaders, and trucks.

Troubleshoots and maintains the golf course irrigation system.

What You Will Bring

Required:

Groundskeeper I

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Up to 1 year of experience in landscaping maintenance and operating related equipment and tools
  • Valid driver's license

Groundskeeper II

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2 years, or more, of experience in landscaping maintenance and operating related equipment and tools
  • Valid driver's license
  • Pesticide license

Preferred, but not required:

Groundskeeper I

  • Vocational or technical training or degree
  • 2 years of experience in landscaping maintenance and operating related equipment and tools
  • Ability to obtain a pesticide license following hire

Groundskeeper II

  • Vocational or technical training or degree
  • 4 years of experience in landscaping maintenance and operating related equipment and tools
  • Commercial driver's license
Physical Requirements
  • Outdoor work with daily exposure to a variety of weather conditions
  • May experience frequent exposure to a high level of noise
  • Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts of machinery or tools used to perform work, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds without assistance
  • May be exposed to conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, climb, stoop, push, pull, reach, crouch, crawl

Job exempt: No

Salary range: $16.00-$21.45

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.

This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time. All candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
