PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To lead caregivers in a group environment through safe and effective fitness classes that are designed to enhance overall fitness while ensuring the safety of each caregiver.
Schedule:
Hours and schedule will be discussed during the HR Phone Screen, but this position is budgeted for 4 to 6 hours per week with option to pick up additional hours based on class demand and substituting.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Choregraph and lead exercise classes
- Manage exercise class size up to 20 participants with varying abilities
- Design and teach a variety of exercise routines
- Monitor and teach class participants proper exercise form and technique using positive reinforcement
- Educate class participants about fitness, exercise, and safe exercise techniques
- Set up, move, and store exercise equipment
- Leave a clean and organized exercise room after class
- Perform exercise equipment maintenance
- Record class attendance
- Report to the fitness center manager or supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself and other caregivers
- Complete system-wide education and other requirements including but not limited to vaccination deadlines and surveys
- Comply with the health system's COVID and other health issued regulations
- Meet with caregivers for orientations, consultations, and exercise instruction
- Prescribe exercise prescriptions and fitness assessments
- Staff and oversee daily operations of the fitness centers
- Operate and assist in department programs, projects, and challenges
- Present to other departments, partake in system-wide events and exercise demonstrations
- Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices
- Perform other related duties as required
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required or degree in Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Physiology, Kinesiology or in a related discipline.
- Group Fitness Instructor Certification from a nationally recognized institution including, but not limited to ACE, ACSM, AFAA, ISSA, NETA required. A degree in Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Physiology, Kinesiology or in a related discipline with experience teaching fitness classes may be considered in lieu of a certification in which the certification will be acquired during employment.
- CPR with AED certification required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of basic physiology, anatomy, and body mechanics.
- Knowledge of basic technology including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Teams.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Have experience instructing group fitness classes to diverse abilities.
SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
- Instruct a minimum of 26 exercise classes/year, as scheduled by Fitness Center Manager.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Exercise studios and fitness centers at the Avenue North, Christiana, and Wilmington campuses.
Hourly Pay Range: $16.50 - $23.93
This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
