Overview

The National Sculpture Society (NSS), the nation's oldest professional organization dedicated to figurative and representational sculpture, seeks a strategic, innovative, and relationship-focused Executive Director to lead the organization through a pivotal transition. Founded in 1893 by leading American sculptors, NSS today serves as a national hub for artists at all career stages through exhibitions, publications, awards, scholarships, and professional development. NSS is implementing a bold 2025–2028 Strategic Plan to expand visibility, modernize operations, grow membership, and diversify revenue. The Society operates with a budget of $900,000, an endowment/investment portfolio valued at over $14 million, a staff of two, and a 20-member national Board of Trustees. The Executive Director will be a compelling spokesperson, an effective fundraiser, and a skilled administrator, committed to supporting artists and strengthening the field of representational sculpture. Responsibilities
  • Serve as a compelling spokesperson, effective fundraiser, and skilled administrator.
  • Lead NSS through the implementation of the 2025–2028 Strategic Plan to expand visibility, modernize operations, grow membership, and diversify revenue.
  • Provide strategic leadership to support artists and strengthen the field of representational sculpture.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Trustees and staff to advance organizational priorities and ensure sound governance and operations.
Qualifications
  • Experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, and organizational operations.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to serve as a spokesperson and work effectively with a national Board of Trustees.
