Position Overview

As a lead plumbing design engineer at Henderson Engineers, you will contribute your expertise to our six market sectors, including Business, Community, Grocery & Distribution, Health, Retail, and Venue. We integrate our engineering knowledge with the in-the-field experience of Henderson Building Solutions to deliver a standout client experience. For more about our facilities, visit

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively advises and mentors less experienced designers and engineers across teams, providing oversight and technical guidance.
  • Takes responsibility for the success of those under their direct supervision.
  • Designs advanced building systems, prepares design documents, and performs engineering calculations in coordination with project teams and multiple disciplines. Trains, mentors, and leads design staff, which may include directly supervising others. Lead Designers participate in business development, corporate operations, and risk management activities.
  • Leads project and design efforts from concept design through completion.
  • Produces solutions to complex engineering problems and design challenges through direct involvement or advisory capacity.
  • Ensures production of drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Participates in the development of tools, resources, and company practices.
  • Implements and reinforces design and engineering standards at the team or practice level.
  • Oversees project and design quality through the quality review process and regular check-ins; may include final reviews for projects under purview.
Required Qualifications

Lead Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural) and 11 years of relevant experience, or 13 years of experience without a degree. Professional Engineering (PE) license may count toward 1 year of direct experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry standards, codes, design guides, and a broad range of practices and projects.
  • Knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes and methods.
  • Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu.

Senior Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field and 15 years of relevant experience (commensurate experience may be considered in lieu of degree). PE license may count toward 1 year of direct experience.
  • Expert knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides, and standards across a broad range of practices and programs.
  • Working knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes and methods.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Bluebeam Revu.

Preferred Qualifications (both Lead and Senior):

  • PE license.
  • FE exam completion and/or LEED and/or WELL accreditation.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry standards, and a broad range of practices and program types.
