Overview
Reporting to the VP, 3D Creative, the Director, Store Design will lead the development and execution of all retail initiatives for TOM FORD and Couture Brands, including store design concept and design for all retail formats and tiers, guidelines, toolkits, communication, in-store experience and seasonal implementations. The role ensures consistency and high visual standards that represent the brand image and equity across all retail channels. The Director, SD will partner with global cross-functional teams and Regional SD leads for development, execution and implementation.
Responsibilities
- Drive and lead the development of retail initiatives from ignition to implementation with cross-functional teams in global and regional settings.
- Manage and lead the Store Design (SD) team, training and coaching new and existing SD team members.
- Manage high-volume workload and prioritize project requirements effectively.
- Partner with Global Product Marketing and Creative Operations to establish project briefs and objectives for in-store environments across multiple channels and formats.
- Maintain a consumer-first mindset to create a cohesive, globally relevant retail experience with synergy across channels.
- Support VP and SVP Brand Image with evolving global store design concepts.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and present new ideas/concepts for architectural, fixture, lighting, material selection and merchandising concepts in liaison with VM.
- Oversee all retail formats globally (Shop in Shop, Free Standing stores, Department Stores, Pop-ups, temporary kiosks, perfumeries) with tasks including: design of new TOM FORD and BL formats and Tier A locations (layout, design, 3-D visualization, design development), project management oversight, site visits, quality monitoring, construction drawing reviews, shop drawings, and identification of new retail experience opportunities.
- Develop guidelines and toolkits for regions to activate retail initiatives; work with Marketing to track execution and adjust as needed.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure a holistic approach to retail experience initiatives; collaborate with regional teams and cross-departmentally to meet objectives.
- Support regions with budget constraints, working with IP, RDDC and vendors to develop value-engineering solutions and cost-conscious formats.
- Lead regional conference calls and meetings; participate in high-level meetings with upper management, Marketing, Regions and Licensees as needed, with decision-making responsibilities.
- Lead sustainability initiatives, collaborating with corporate teams and vendors.
- Apply knowledge of competitive landscape and trends in line with Brand Strategy and Equity positioning.
Qualifications
- B.Arch or M.Arch mandatory
- 8-10 years of experience with a focus on architectural design and construction, with a preference for luxury.
- Luxury retail industry and international experience preferred.
- At least 3 years of project management experience.
- Excellence in design vision, execution, and taste level; exceptional visualization skills (mood boards, sketches, renderings, Photoshop comps, etc.).
- Ability to lead complete design projects of high complexity from inception through completion.
- Strong problem-solving mindset, capable of challenging standard practices and thinking creatively.
- Team-oriented with strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Flexibility and strategic thinking; able to adapt to changing priorities and design shifts.
- Deep passion for retail and in-store experiences; strong understanding of current luxury beauty/fashion/retail/design trends.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate ideas to cross-functional partners.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to self-manage multiple brands, ensure quality execution, and maintain attention to detail.
- Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD and Photoshop; experience with technical drawings.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, creative environment.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Pay and Benefits
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $120,000.00 to $208,200.00. Exact salary depends on experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary may vary based on geographic location. This position is eligible for a bonus program and participation in the company's share incentive plan.
