Job Description Health Program Specialist III - Newborn Screening Educator Newborn Screening Public Health Educator - Looking for innovative, proactive person with fresh ideas and the desire to help the public in educating them in newborn screening. Main role includes educating healthcare professionals and families about newborn screening processes, disorders, and follow-up care to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment for newborns with potentially serious conditions. Public health educator or nurse educator is preferred. Travel throughout the state is required. Due to the nature of this position, compliance to the Utah Department of Health Employee Immunization policy is required. Responsibilities:
- Educate healthcare providers, including nurses and midwives, and families about the importance of newborn screening, the tests performed and what happens if a baby's screening is abnormal
- Create and update educational programs and resources for various audiences involved in the NBS process.
- Assess the quality and effectiveness of educational interventions to ensure they are improving follow-up and education within the newborn screening system
- Share information on new disorders, best practices, and policies to relevant stakeholders
- Provide support within the newborn screening program with daily duties to ensure the appropriateness of NBS samples.
Minimum Requirements:
- 4 years experience in Public Health or Nursing OR Bachelor's Degree
- 1-2 years' experience in public health education
- Passion for public service and newborns
- Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing
- Speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally
- Inquisitive, open and friendly personality
Preference:
- Bachelor Degree in Nursing or Public Health
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This position will work a hybrid schedule with two days in the office.
