Job Title: Lab Technologist Contract: 06 month (Possibility of extension) Location: Pittsburgh, PA Schedule: Position will be Tuesday - Saturday from 8:00AM - 4:30PM. Training will be Monday - Friday from 8:00AM - 4:30PM. Job Purpose:
- Performs clinical laboratory tests, procedures and analysis to provide data for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease in newborns.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares specimens for analysis and organizes tests to be performed.
- Performs clinical testing according to standard operating procedures, related to specimen handling, processing, and test analyses.
- Accesses and handles protected health information (PHI) according to laboratory policies and procedures and in a manner consistent with federal regulations.
- Prepares and properly labels reagents required for laboratory testing
- Conducts analysis of dried blood spots to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
- Reviews test results, maintains legible work records, and enters findings into the laboratory information systems.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment's according to established schedule and procedure
- Verifies proper instrument function by checking and calibrating lab instruments and documents data.
- Records on instrument log any repairs, replacement and maintenance performed on laboratory instruments.
- Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities.
- Participates, as requested, in the training of new employees.
- Abides by laboratory safety policies and procedures.
- Pays careful attention to detail during all laboratory tasks.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

Skills:
- Clinical and research lab environment; exposure to blood borne pathogens; must wear protective lab gear including lab coat, gloves and completely closed footwear.
- Employee may be requested to work shifts other than daylight depending on the needs of the laboratory. Weekend rotation may be required.
- Travel is not required.
- Ensure safety, security, and the environment in all aspect of the daily activities, and any potential safety hazards are addressed and corrected immediately.
- Understand ergonomic relationship between people, equipment and working environment.
Education: Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a physical science such as chemistry, biology, molecular biology or medical technology. Additionally, a transcript will need to be submitted to the client during the onboarding process.
- An up-to-date Hepatitis B vaccination is required to work in the lab.
