Overview
Position: Deputy Chief Advancement/Development Officer (Associate Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement)
FLSA: Exempt • Type: Permanent - Full Time • Tenure Track: No • FTE: 1.0 (40 hours/week, 12 months)
Division: Division of Institutional Advancement at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). The office is responsible for acquiring support from corporations, foundations, alumni and friends to support the University's programs, promote the University's mission to external publics, and solicit and secure philanthropic support.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Work with the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement to develop a strategy and establish measurable goals to increase alumni engagement and private fundraising.
- Coordinate all fundraising activity with the NCCU Foundation.
- Develop strong positive relationships with the university community to position the Division as the major resource and coordinator of all university fundraising.
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit donor prospects for principal and planned gifts.
- Provide oversight to development and alumni relations programs/activity as directed by the Vice Chancellor.
- Manage Title III to include proposal development, management of funds, and post‑award reporting.
- Establish and adhere to annual operating budgets and ensure Advancement programs operate prudently.
- Ensure adherence to procedures regarding procurement and adequate processing of requisitions for the Division, including supervision of the office manager.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Division of Institutional Advancement drives philanthropy by securing support from corporations, foundations, alumni and friends to support university programs, enhance the university's image, and solicit fundraising aligned with NCCU's mission.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven leadership, management, and strategic direction for staff and fundraising goals.
- Demonstrated success as a major gift and principal gift fundraiser.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Budget management experience.
- Understanding of annual giving, planned/deferred giving, capital campaigns, and gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Strong attention to detail, efficient work habits, flexibility, and outstanding organizational skills with ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
Minimum Education/Experience
Undergraduate degree in a related field and a minimum of 10 years combined leadership and major gift fundraising management experience, including five to eight years in a senior management capacity with a nonprofit organization involving a substantial staff.
