Overview

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Identity and Belonging, the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program Director manages, plans, coordinates and supervises the operations and activities of the program. The Program Director develops and implements policies and procedures as well as individualized professional development activities and events for students, maintains grant budget, and prepares all performance status reports to meet grant contract deliverables. The Program Director will also provide direct, holistic advising to TRIO SSS participants. Travel will be required.

TRIO Student Support Services was first funded in 1993. The program now continuously serves 165 CSUF students. The position helps implement all required student services, meet grant objectives, ensure program services are inclusive to all participants, executed appropriately and maintain thorough records.

Work Hours will be scheduled between Monday - Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM.

Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the administration, implementation, and evaluation of the TRIO SSS program.
  • Directly supervise professional staff and oversee the supervision and management of student staff including Office Assistant(s), Peer Navigator(s), Graduate Assistant(s), and interns. Recruit, hire, and train new staff as needed.
  • Provide holistic advising to TRIO SSS participants of various majors and undergraduate academic class levels at CSUF. Develop and maintain Individualized Success Plans with individual participants. Identify and develop strategies and activities for improving participants' academic development, achievement, career planning, and interest in graduate education.
  • Provide educational support services to participants that recognize the academic and social needs of first-generation, low-income, and disabled students to increase retention and graduation rates in these populations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to identify and select program participants ensuring eligibility of each participant.
  • Establish programs and services required to carry out the SSS plan of operation and achieve program objectives.
  • Act as the primary liaison for activities and required communication to university personnel and the US Department of Education.
  • Responsible for preparing and submitting the Annual Performance Report (APR).
  • Prepare program budget, performance, and fiscal reports as required.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations, including monitoring of the progress of all students, prepare summary evaluation reports, and submit annual reports to grantor and the institution as required.
  • Attend workshops, training conferences, seminars and other activities promoting innovation for the benefit of students and staff.
  • Manage the day-to-day functions of the staff and ensure operations are running efficiently.
  • Oversees the maintenance and secure retention of student records including application materials, service documentation, and Student Access database.
  • Collaborate with other departments for program activities and to recruit students to the program.
  • Serve on university committees as needed that are relevant to the success of TRIO SSS students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four (4) years of professional experience in developmental education, and/or related to instructions and/or student services with experience relevant to college-level developmental programs.
  • Experience in measuring program learning outcomes and administering program assessment.
  • Experience in program development and administration.
  • Experience in budget management of discretionary funds.
  • Experience supervising professional staff.
  • Ability to work effectively with low-income, first generation, and disabled college students in need of academic assistance and university personnel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with university faculty and staff.
  • Experience with TRIO programs.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations.
  • Teaching experience, preferable in courses related to skill development.
  • Personal experience in barriers similar to those of the students served by the project.

Education

  • Minimum Master's degree in education, counseling, or related fields required from an accredited institution of higher education.

Physical Demands

Prolonged sitting in front of a computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
