Job DetailsJob Location Holsum of Fort Wayne LaPorte - La Porte, IN Position Type Full Time Education Level 4 Year Degree Travel Percentage Up to 25% Job Shift 1st Job Category Manufacturing Description The EHS Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of all environmental, health, and safety programs at their assigned facilities. The ideal candidate will be a results-oriented leader with a proven track record of managing multiple EHS initiatives across multiple sites and fostering a world-class safety culture. This position will be physically located at the within a bakery but will require some travel between other bakeries as needed. This position will report to the Vice President EHS/ESG. Job Summary The EHS Manager is a new position within Lewis Bakeries with long term career growth as the company continues its growth! The EHS Manager will provide leadership and technical expertise to ensure all operations are in full compliance with company policies and all federal, state, and local EHS regulations. This role is responsible for strategically managing risks, preventing injuries and incidents, and driving continuous improvement in EHS performance for the assigned bakery. The EHS Manager will mentor on-site teams, analyze performance metrics, and ensure uniform application of safety standards and best practices. Key Responsibilities
  • Program Leadership: Direct, develop, and oversee all EHS programs, policies, and procedures for the bakery. Ensure consistency and standardization of EHS practices where appropriate, while tailoring programs to meet site-specific needs.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Act as the primary technical expert for EHS compliance, maintaining an in-depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA, EPA, and state/local regulations. Lead interactions with regulatory agencies during inspections and inquiries.
  • Strategic Risk Management: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and hazard analyses for processes and equipment. Develop and implement strategic plans to mitigate identified risks and reduce incident rates.
  • Incident Investigation & Analysis: Lead the investigation process for significant incidents, accidents, and near-misses. Focus on identifying root causes and implementing robust corrective actions that can be shared and leveraged across the company.
  • Performance Metrics & Reporting: Track, analyze, and report on key EHS performance indicators (e.g., TRIR, LTIR, near-miss trends) for organization. Present findings and strategic recommendations to site leadership and corporate EHS management.
  • Training & Development: Assist in developing and oversee the EHS training strategy for all employees, supervisors, and manager. Mentor and coach site-level safety committee members and operational staff to build EHS competency and leadership.
  • Auditing & Continuous Improvement: Assist in developing comprehensive EHS audit protocols for the company to assess compliance and program effectiveness. Drive the closure of audit findings and champion a culture of continuous improvement.
QualificationsQualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related technical field is required.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in an Environmental, Health, and Safety role, with at least 2 years of experience managing EHS programs.
  • Experience within food manufacturing, consumer packaged goods (CPG), or a similar fast-paced industrial environment is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated expertise in interpreting and applying OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence, engage, and motivate teams at all levels of the organization without direct authority.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to drive strategy and decision-making.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • Superior communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with EHS management software.
  • Ability to travel regularly between bakery locations (estimated travel of 25%). A valid driver's license is required.
