Job Summary
Laystrom Manufacturing is seeking an experienced and results-driven Plant Manager to oversee all daily operations of our metal fabrication facility. This role requires strong leadership, deep industry knowledge, and a hands-on approach to managing production, safety, quality, and continuous improvement efforts. This is a production focused, operations intense role. The ideal candidate will drive operational excellence while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and team performance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage day-to-day operations of the metal fabrication plant, including production, maintenance, quality control, and logistics.
Develop and execute production schedules to meet customer demands and delivery timelines.
Monitor KPIs to assess performance and implement improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize output.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, OSHA standards, and internal quality protocols.
Collaborate with engineering, purchasing, and sales departments to align production with customer requirements.
Drive lean manufacturing initiatives, process improvements, and cost reduction strategies.
Recruit, train, and manage plant staff; promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous development.
Maintain equipment and facilities to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
Develop and manage the plant budget, including labor, materials, and maintenance costs.
Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive working environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field.
Subject matter expertise with precision sheet metal.
Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 3 years in a plant leadership role.
Prior experience in precision sheet metal fabrication is required (e.g., welding, cutting, bending, CNC operations).
Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Proven leadership, decision-making, and people management skills.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt).
Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems.
Project management experience.
Work Environment
This role requires a presence on the shop floor; standing, walking, and lifting may be required.
Standard workweek with flexibility to address production issues off-hours or on weekends if needed.
