Director, Software Engineering - Velocity Black

Capital One's Card Tech Engineering Organization seeks a Director of Software Engineering to lead, manage, mentor, and build software engineering teams to deliver game-changing technologies. The Director must attract top talent and maintain technical chops to ensure customer-focused solutions are built in an iterative methodology.

You will switch between hands-on technical work with engineers and high-level strategic discussions, stay on top of emerging trends, prototype nascent technologies, and question existing processes while focusing on business value and the right priorities.

Velocity Black by Capital One harnesses AI, human expertise, and modern interfaces to help high-performance individuals realize their potential. The product, Velocity Black, is built in React and provides exclusive access across Travel, Experiences, Luxury Goods, and Dining. It includes Gravity, an internal request management platform built with React and Node.js microservices, augmenting customer service with AI to deliver exceptional personal service.

You will

• Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of product-focused software engineers
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team
• Work with product leaders to define strategy, roadmap and destination architecture
• Manage a portfolio of diverse technology platforms and projects to build scalable applications that meet customer needs
• Continuously improve software engineering practices
• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full stack of development tools and technologies
• Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions
• Stay current with technology trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal and external technology communities, and mentor other engineers
• Encourage innovation and the implementation of cutting-edge technologies, with collaborative, self-organizing teamwork

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree
• At least 7 years' experience in software development
• At least 5 years' experience in people management
• At least 3 years of experience in public cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure)

Qualifications

• Master's Degree
• 10+ years' of experience in software development
• 4+ years of experience with AWS
• 4+ years of experience with Mobile Development (React, Kotlin, Swift)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location, and refer to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on hours worked.

New York, NY: $287,800 - $328,500 for Director, Software Engineering

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range for that location; the actual annualized salary offered will be reflected in the offer letter.

This role may be eligible for performance-based incentives, including cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives may be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
