GD Resources is hiring Switchboard Operators to provide professional and reliable telephone communication services at the Stratton VA Medical Center. Operators will manage incoming and outgoing calls, handle emergency notifications, and ensure timely, courteous service to veterans, staff, and visitors.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperate multi-line telephone consoles to process incoming and outgoing calls.
Answer, transfer, and route calls to the correct extension or department.
Assist with placing local, long-distance, and international calls.
Use paging systems (public address, radio paging, two-way radios) to make announcements and relay urgent messages.
Maintain and update daily on-call rosters for physicians, nurses, and other staff.
Respond to emergency situations, including cardiac arrest codes, fire alarms, disaster notifications, and security alerts, following VA protocols.
Keep accurate logs of incidents, tests, and communications-related issues.
Report telephone or equipment problems promptly for corrective action.
Provide courteous, professional service at all times.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 1 year of prior experience as a switchboard/reception operator or in a customer service communication role (healthcare setting preferred).
Skills:
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure, particularly in emergencies.
Proficiency with multi-line phone and paging systems.
Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
Requirements:
Must pass VA background check and obtain a VA-issued Personal Identity Verification (PIV) badge.
Completion of VA-provided orientation and annual mandatory trainings (HIPAA, Privacy, and Information Security).
Compliance with VA safety, privacy, and workplace conduct regulations.
24/7 Coverage Required: Switchboard operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including all federal holidays.
Operators will work on a rotating shift schedule to ensure continuous coverage.
Shifts include Day, Evening, Overnight, Weekends, and Holidays.
Flexibility and availability for backup coverage in case of staff absence are required.
