We are currently looking for a Full Time Veterans Advocate to join our Area of Veterans Services team located at the Youth & Family Building working . Summary: Provides outreach services to tribal veterans to assist them with the acquisition of veteran's benefits and services; to interface with the Veterans Affairs and other veterans' organizations to serve as an advocate for clients. Responsibilities: * Identifies basic procedures and documents required to access veterans' benefits and services for the veteran and family * Advocates for veterans' social, health, educational, housing, employment and training needs * Gathers, organizes and evaluates data that will be useful in identifying needs of Chickasaw and other Native American veterans * Provides assistance for families of deceased veterans for possible benefits to which they may qualify * Disseminates current information regarding legislation and regulations that govern veteran benefits and services * Assists with implementing various culturally appropriate activities and services within the Chickasaw Nation service area * Acts as liaison between internal and/or external individuals and/or groups * All other duties as assigned Competencies: Essential: * Follow instructions, both written and oral * Understand Native American culture and tribal programs * Knowledge of veteran programs and the services available * Experience in working with the disabled * Ability to multitask * Builds effective working relationships Skills: Essential: * Basic Computer skills Experience: Nonessential: * 1 year directly related experience Education: Essential: * High School, GED or Equivalent Nonessential: * Bachelors Degree in directly related field Credentials: Essential: * Standard Driver's License * Pass general background check Working Conditions: Essential: * Pass pre-employment drug test * Mix of office/non-office settings
