JOB TITLE: MATERIAL HANDLING SUPERVISOR

DEPARTMENT: Material Handling

REPORTS TO: Supply Chain ManagerSUPERVISES: Material Handling Team Leaders, Material Handlers, Supply Cage Clerks, Drivers

JOB SUMMARYSupervises, assigns and directs the activities of the materials or shipping warehouse staff. Maintains communications with other departments to facilitate the timely distribution of parts and supplies. Ensures inventory accuracy through reconciling inventory locations and through thoroughly training staff. Responsible for safety and SQF results for the warehouse.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSupervision - Responsible for staffing, managing and supervising the performance of direct reports in the warehouse to ensure that team goals and objectives are achieved by ensuring TeamMate job core responsibilities and performance expectations are well defined, TeamMates have a clear understanding of department goals and objectives, TeamMates have the necessary skills, tools and materials to do their job, and the general working climate facilitates the successful performance of their job responsibilities. Representative duties include:
  • Interviews candidates and staffing position vacancies in a timely basis with qualified people capable of meeting the requirements of the position.
  • Develops and manages work schedules.
  • Schedules and prioritizes work.
  • Assigns and monitors work ensuring it is completed in an efficient, cost-effective fashion.
  • Manages and evaluates performance.
  • Identifies and addresses training and development needs.
  • Coaches, counsels, and resolves complaints.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Takes a vested interest in the career development of the team.

Logistics Coordination

Oversees the movement of component parts and finished goods between buildings. Supplies the production areas with the correct components to run orders. Representative duties include:

  • Prepares department work schedule and work assignments to ensure proper coverage for all jobs. Coordinates over-time and weekend schedules for all shifts.
  • Coordinates supply cage activities, including assuring that order kits are accurately prepared, non-stock inventory levels are monitored, part inspections are performed, etc.
  • Oversees material handling efforts between facilities and workshops.

Inventory Control -

Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels of all component parts, overseeing and processing inventory transactions, and by reviewing transactions to determine root cause of errors found. Representative duties include:

  • Operates radio frequency, (RF), scanners to maintain accurate inventory levels and locations.
  • Understands the RF transactions and how each transaction affects inventory. Makes necessary corrections are found.
  • Reviews staging locations daily to ensure that there are not out of date inventory balances.
  • Assigns cycle counts to staff and monitors results.
  • Serves as the shift point person for any component inventory questions. Investigates, responds and corrects records as needed.

Warehouse Organization –

Responsible for the organization of the warehouse and staging areas for Production needs and Molding requirements. Representative duties include:

  • Coordinates delivery of required materials and molded components from satellite warehouses to maintain a continuous flow of parts to production areas.
  • Reviews warehouse set-up regularly and reorganizes to have parts closest to point-of-use. Continuously strives to minimize material movement through process improvements.
  • Reviews the Molding Schedule daily and schedules where molded parts are to be stored.
  • Ensures in-house coffin boxes, lids, and corrugated shipper boxes are made available for Molding.
  • Works with Supply Chain Manager to develop and implement best practice procedures for managing warehouse space to its maximum efficiency.

Training – Develops equipment and job training plans and serves as trainer. Representative duties include:

  • Standardizes and documents optimal procedures and work instructions for the department.
  • Monitors comments in the AS400 and ensures that all practices are properly documented by working with the Inside Rep to discuss any mismatches between documentation and practice.
  • Develops comprehensive time phased training plans for Material Handlers.
  • Trains Material Handlers as needed or oversees the training process.
      • Participates in the development and enforcement of the forklift training plan

Safety – Promotes a safe work environment and ensures that all regulations are followed. Representative duties include:

  • Conducts thorough investigations of any incidents or near misses. Follows up with EHS Manager and TeamMate(s) to review corrective actions.
  • Conducts weekly EHS audits. Tracks EHS corrective actions and ensures completion.
  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repairs.
  • Operates powered industrial trucks, sit down and walk ride to move materials to and from locations. Completes a forklift checklist prior to operation. Refers all problems to vehicle maintenance for repair. Adheres to traffic safety program.
  • Safeguards operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols. Enforces outside driver safety policies.
  • Ensures that all operations are performed with the utmost regard for the safety and health of all personnel involved.
  • Ensures that all equipment utilized in the area managed is free of recognized hazards and that all TeamMates have been trained in the safe and proper use of the equipment.
  • Ensures that Safety Talks are conducted when required and attendance is documented.
  • Reviews traffic patterns and develops optimal traffic flow.

SQF – Enforces SQF guidelines and encourages a clean work environment. Representative duties include:

  • Internal inspections should result in few, if any, corrective actions. Corrective actions must be addressed in a timely fashion and not repeat in subsequent inspections.
  • Ensures that internal SQF audits of the warehouse are conducted weekly and that all issues are addressed immediately.
Other (not core) Responsibilities:
  • Timely completion and receipt of all documents by Accounting for attendance and truck mileage.
  • Capable of performing all job duties within the department. Ensures there is no disruption to the production departments.
  • Communicates with maintenance departments to ensure all equipment and building needs are fulfilled.
  • Reviews departmental procedures, work instructions, and forms every 2 years to verify they are accurate and up to date. Makes necessary changes and communicates to department with sign-off log showing date of training.
  • Provides manpower through creative scheduling of Teammates.
  • Must be able to work overtime to fulfill the company's needs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • May back up the preparation of the mold schedule.

QUALIFICATIONSAssociates degree in business management or three to five years of warehouse or inventory management experience preferred. Supervisory experience with exceptional leadership skills strongly preferred. Must possess valid driver's license. One to two year's forklift experience preferred. Ability to read, write comprehensive documentation and operate office equipment required. Must possess strong mathematical skills. Working knowledge and limited experience with AS400, Word and Excel preferred. Must demonstrate high levels of accuracy and attention to detail with strong problem solving and interpersonal skills. Good manual dexterity and color discrimination required.PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Prolonged sitting, standing, walking. Lifting or moving of 45lbs.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Driving records for TeamMates holding safety sensitive positions will be subject to periodic review from a third party. Failure to maintain an acceptable driving record could result in job loss or reassignment.

Drivers with unacceptable driving records would include those with one or more of the following violations:

· Conviction for an alcohol and/or drug related driving offense

· Refusal to submit to a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) test

· Conviction for reckless driving

· Any combination of three or more moving violations, At Fault Accidents , or Preventable Accidents within the most recent three years

· Suspension, revocation or administrative restriction within the last three years

· Leaving the scene of an accident as defined by state laws

· At fault in a fatal accident

· Felony committed involving a vehicle

· Three or more Company Vehicle physical damage claims in any twelve month period
