Job Title: On-Site Prior Authorization Specialist (Senior Level Pharmacy Technician)

Location: New York, NY (10017)

Compensation: $30–$31/hour

Hours: Monday - Friday 8a-5p

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Prior Authorization Specialist to join our on-site pharmacy team in NYC. This role is considered a senior-level pharmacy technician position, requiring strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to seamlessly integrate with clinical staff. You will work closely with patients, providers, and insurance companies to ensure timely medication access, adherence, and financial assistance support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with patients in specialty clinics, encouraging utilization of pharmacy services to maximize patient care outcomes.
  • Collaborate with clinic teams (physicians, nurses, staff, pharmacists) to support continuity of care.
  • Facilitate approvals of medications through insurance prior authorizations and financial assistance programs.
  • Provide patient support by adjudicating claims, refilling medications, and promoting adherence through outreach calls.
  • Review prescriptions with physician offices and communicate with insurance companies to resolve prior authorization barriers.
  • Document all patient interactions, prior authorization statuses, and assistance efforts across EMRs, databases, and email systems.
  • Track and meet performance metrics including:
  • Prescription refill queue times
  • Patient outreach efforts (timestamped)
  • 31+ completed activities per week
  • 24–48 hour turnaround time on submissions
  • 98% approval rate on prior authorization requests

Training & Tools

  • Comprehensive 6-week training program including remote learning, shadowing, and hands-on system training.
  • Gain expertise in EPIC and other pharmacy applications.

Qualifications (Must-Have Skills)

  • National certification (PTCB or NHA) required unless located in a state with licensure requirements.
  • Minimum 1 year of pharmacy experience with prior authorizations.
  • Strong background in insurance adjudication.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.
