Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)Position Overview
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) applies comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory, technical skills, and effective communication to provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients and their families. This role includes working a rotating schedule with 3 twelve-hour shifts and 2 on-call shifts every 4 weeks, including availability during the holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patient assessments to identify urgent and emergent care needs and prioritize care based on Triage Standards.
- Provide direct patient care and apply appropriate medical interventions for both life-threatening and routine emergency situations.
- Establish rapport with patients and families, addressing comfort needs and providing frequent updates.
- Conduct primary and secondary assessments, documenting major deviations from norm and identifying necessary steps for interventions.
- Assess psychosocial needs and report any suspicions of domestic violence or abuse.
- Encourage teamwork and build mutual trust among colleagues to optimize patient outcomes.
- Provide education to patients and families on post-emergency care and assess their understanding of treatment plans.
- Maintain clear communication with patients and their families throughout the emergency visit, updating them regularly on care processes.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention strategies to safeguard public safety.
Required Qualifications
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (must be from AHA or RQI).
- Two years of acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least one year in an emergency department setting.
- Ability to work through holidays with no guaranteed return to the office (RTO) during three major holidays.
- New York State Registered Nurse License.
Certifications
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and NYS RN Licensure are required.
