Wytheville Community College is currently recruiting for the following positions: Coordinator of Student Support ServicesJob DescriptionThe mission of Wytheville Community College is to provide a quality, comprehensive education for the citizens of the counties of Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, and Wythe and the city of Galax. To achieve this mission and to fulfill its role as an educational leader and partner, Wytheville Community College commits to a student-centered environment by: providing programs and courses in occupational-technical education, college transfer education, general education, developmental education, distance education, continuing education, and workforce development; utilizing a broad range of instructional technologies, methods, materials, and facilities that are designed to meet the diverse needs of students; offering a supportive, comprehensive program of student development services that contribute to student persistence, success, and citizenship; fueling regional and state economic development by forging partnerships with businesses, industries, public agencies, civic groups, public schools, and other institutions of higher education not only within the service region but throughout the Commonwealth; promoting Appalachian Culture and cultural opportunities of Southwest Virginia; promoting accessibility; promoting accessibility and affordability; and ensuring quality in all programs and services. Wytheville Community College is seeking a Coordinator of Student Support Services (Project Aim). The successful candidate will be responsible for effective management and supervision of the program and staff to ensure that it meets the established goals, objectives, and federal guidelines. This is a federally funded grant position working with low-income, first-generation and disabled college students. Continuance of the position will be determined by successful grant funding.Special AssignmentsMay be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.KSA's/Required QualificationsMaster's degree required in administration, higher education, counseling or related field from an accredited college or university;A minimum of five (5) years' experience in designing, implementing and/or directing an educational or training program; preferably a TRIO program;A minimum of three (3) years' experience in budget management, staff supervision, grant writing, compilation and analysis of data and program evaluation and reporting and compliance with federal regulations;Knowledge of academic advising services; development of individualized service plans, career development; financial aid; disability services (ADA compliance), financial literacy services and programming for low-income and disadvantaged college students;Knowledge of computer database and tracking systems;Ability to provide leadership and establish positive, effective working relationships; andKnowledge of barriers to postsecondary education faced by low-income and potential first-generation college students. Wytheville Community College (WCC) is seeking a student focused, connection building, and compassionate problem solver to join our team as an Academic Advisor. An advisor works closely with potential and currently enrolled students to identify career pathways in academic and workforce programs that match their interests and skills. This role is responsible for assisting students who plan to transfer to a four-year college, including coordinating with transfer representatives from four-year institutions and facilitating opportunities for students to visit those campuses.The advisor serves as a resource to assist individuals in overcoming non-academic barriers that may affect their ability to complete their educational goals successfully. Knowledge and understanding of specific needs of underserved populations and a commitment to help these individuals attain educational success are critical responsibilities for this role.The work of an advisor is proactive and designed to assist the student to the completion of a credential or degree. This includes communicating regularly with students, maintaining records of student outreach and other interactions, making connections to available college and community support services, and assisting with academic interventions when necessary. Advisors will utilize a variety of technology solutions in addition in-person interactions to connect with students. The ability to utilize and learn new technology and the willingness to work in different environments is essential. The successful candidate must be caring, organized, communicative, and flexible.Special AssignmentsMay be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.KSA's/Required QualificationsThe Academic Advisor must have skills and abilities in the following areas:Bachelor's degree in related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience;Knowledge of barriers to educational success and a desire to help others each their educational goals;Experience working with diverse populations;Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support to, and motivate students;Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to effectively follow up and follow through;Effective oral and written communication skills;Effective problem-solving skills;Excellent organizational and presentation skills;Proficient in use of technology, including Microsoft Office and Google docs; andDemonstrated ability to work effectively both independently as well as part of a team.
