Position Overview
We are seeking a full-time Fire Protection Designer to join our Richmond, VA office. In this role, you will design fire alarm and fire protection systems, prepare drawings and specifications, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations. The role involves collaborating with engineers and clients, conducting field assessments, and producing project documentation and reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Design fire alarm and/or fire protection systems.
- Prepare detailed drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA, local codes, and project requirements.
- Conduct field assessments and site inspections.
- Collaborate with engineers, clients, and stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain project documentation and reports.
Qualifications
- Experience designing fire alarm and/or fire protection systems.
- Proficiency in CAD software and design tools.
- Ability to perform hydraulic and voltage-drop calculations.
- NICET Certification required.
- Knowledge of NFPA standards and local fire codes.
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Willingness to travel; must be able to obtain a security clearance.
- Professional certifications in fire protection design and prior experience with federal, military, or industrial clients are a plus.
