Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) is a Christ-centered academic community committed to changing the world by developing students in character, scholarship, and leadership. Founded in 1920 as Marion College, IWU has grown into a university that has equipped more than 100,000 alumni with the foundation to excel in their callings.
In 1985, IWU expanded its mission by serving non-residential adult learners—students whose potential had often been overlooked. This bold step of faith multiplied the reach of an IWU education, offering convenient, affordable, and high-quality degree programs through innovative curricular and delivery models. In 2009, IWU established Wesley Seminary, the denomination's only seminary, which has since prepared more than 1,600 Christian leaders for local and global ministry.
Through innovation, disciplined stewardship, and a deep commitment to faith, IWU has achieved world-class facilities, a strengthened endowment, and a distinctive level of financial sustainability. Coupled with its focus on spiritual formation and transformative experiences, IWU holds a unique place in American higher education.
Today, IWU serves more than 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students through residential, online, and onsite programs, while Wesley Seminary enrolls more than 700 students. Guided by a Board of Trustees committed to innovation, IWU advances through its Momentum Plan—12 strategic initiatives designed to ensure IWU remains the Christ-centered university of choice for generations to come.
