Status: Exempt – Full Time

About the Company

Our client focuses on direct debt investments in energy transition. We finance high-quality sustainable energy and climate-related infrastructure assets including grid-connected and behind-the-meter solar, battery energy storage systems ( BESS ) and other energy efficiency asset classes throughout the United States. In addition, we arrange tax credit purchases and tax equity partnerships alongside our debt to solve clients' project requirements. Our client, a portfolio company of MassMutual, provides C-PACE and sustainable mortgage financing to accelerate the transition to low-carbon infrastructure assets in addition to energy transition investments.

Position Description:

Our client is currently seeking a Director [Vice President] with project financing and tax credit structuring experience to join our team. This individual will originate, structure, negotiate, and grow the clean energy portfolio for the Company. The type of investments will include project financing for behind the meter solar, utility scale solar; BESS projects; microgrids and energy efficiency projects nationwide. Responsibilities will include business development, client management along with transaction origination, structuring, modeling, execution, and preparation of materials required for the Investment Committee. As the business grows, we envision the individual building an execution team responsible for all aspects of transaction documents, models, and due diligence.

Primary Duties:

  • Lead client-centric project financing with creative structuring and associated term sheet development and market based pricing.
  • Insure the transaction risk/return profile fits with the Company performance metrics and finance plan.
  • Actively drive transaction origination as part of the team.
  • Prepare and present internal transaction materials for Investment Committee approval, identifying the strategic opportunity, investment economics and business risk profile for the investment.
  • Manage and build an execution team responsible for all aspects of transaction documentation, models, and due diligence as the business grows.

Specific Knowledge and Skills:

  • Relevant project financing experience in debt, tax credit and tax equity structures in the energy and renewables business.
  • Proven track record of originating, structuring, modeling, closing and documenting project finance investments in the clean energy market utilizing strong analytical, business development, client management and interpersonal skills.
  • Excels at taking initiative and having an independent work ethic without requiring close supervision in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Education and Prior Work Experience:

  • At least 7 years of experience in energy project finance, ideally including project finance for renewable infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working directly with sponsors and achieving client management objectives through transaction structuring.
  • Project finance background, including directly originating, leading underwriting effort, financial modeling and rating analysis
  • Experience in fund raising and portfolio review efforts with investors
  • Ability to work as a member of a fast-paced, transaction oriented deal team
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial terminology and their application in the investment process
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel
  • BA in finance, economics or accounting preferred
  • A Chartered Financial Analyst ( CFA ) and/or MBA is preferred.
