Director of Student Services SUMMARY: The Director of Student Services provides strategic leadership for student support programs, ensuring equitable access to educational opportunities for all students. This role oversees special education, health services, family support, and compliance with federal regulations. As a member of the district leadership team, the Director works collaboratively with principals, teachers, families, and community partners to create supportive environments where every student can thrive. Duties and Responsibilities: Student Support Programs
  • Direct special education services, including IEP development, Child Find activities, evaluations, and IDEA compliance across all schools
  • Oversee Section 504 plans, ADA compliance, and accommodation services
  • Manage English Language Learner programs, including assessments, progress monitoring, and staff supervision
  • Serve as McKinney-Vento homeless liaison, coordinating all support services for students in transition
Health and Family Services
  • Supervise district health services, medication protocols, and emergency procedures across all buildings
  • Coordinate comprehensive family support programs, social work services, crisis intervention, and community resource partnerships
  • Facilitate access to community resources, including housing, food assistance, and mental health services, while building agency partnerships
Data and Operations Management
  • Oversee pupil accounting, student enrollment processes, and attendance tracking systems, ensuring accurate state reporting
  • Maintain confidential student records in accordance with FERPA requirements and manage student information systems
  • Develop and manage budgets for all student services programs, coordinate grant applications, and manage vendor relationships
  • Ensure cost-effective service delivery while maintaining compliance with federal regulations
Leadership and Communication
  • Plan professional development for staff, ensure required certifications, and build capacity for inclusive practices
  • Serve as liaison between families, schools, and community providers while providing regular updates to the Board of Education
  • Represent the district in regional meetings, coordinate complaint resolution processes, and implement corrective action plans
  • Analyze program effectiveness through data and stakeholder feedback to inform continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Master's degree or higher
  • Michigan administrator certificate (administration experience preferred)
  • Valid Michigan special education approval/endorsement in at least one area
  • Minimum 3 years of successful special education experience
  • Must hold OR be eligible for special education director/supervisor approval
Knowledge & Skills
  • Expertise in law (IDEA, Section 504, Title III, McKinney-Vento)
  • Experience with student information systems, data analysis, health services, and budget development
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and cultural competency skills
  • Crisis management and emergency response capabilities
Leadership Qualities
  • Strategic vision with a collaborative problem-solving approach

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities
Working Conditions

Reports to: Associate Superintendent Supervises: Nurses, social workers, occupational and speech therapists, psychologists, ELL coordinators, and support personnel Terms of Employment: Full-time, Exempt, 12-month administrative position Salary & Benefits: Salary range: $110,000 - $130,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
