Job Summary

The staff member in this position performs various activities and duties related to admissions, student success, and degree processes within the School of Music.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all admissions and audition activities; oversees recruitment database and related communications with graduate and undergraduate students, oversees new student Orientation activities.

  • Coordinates undergraduate academic advising, including advising workshops for faculty; assists with degree items, processes, and forms needed for undergraduate and graduate students; maintains accurate degree checklists in the Undergraduate and Graduate Bulletins, and on the Website.

  • In terms of recruitment activities, this person will help coordinate SoM audition and admission activities and will represent the SoM at university recruitment events. This includes assisting in scheduling campus visits and coordinating faculty and prospective student schedules; collecting applications and supplemental materials for prospective students; processing pre-audition materials and providing pre-audition evaluations to faculty; scheduling auditions; creating and handling audition evaluation forms; creating and sending confirmation, invitation to audition, and reject/accept letters; processing student decisions. This person also provides assistance to students and advisors during advising and registration periods; facilitates add/drop or grade-change issues, etc..

  • Prepares and maintains forms and correspondence for student adjudication; maintains graduate and undergraduate student information files for the School of Music.

  • Assists designated faculty undergraduate and graduate coordinator(s) in matters of advisor coordination, monitoring deadlines, graduate assistant paperwork, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and 1-2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent organizational skills, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently, excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and managerial skills.

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with everyone.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office, with an ability to effectively utilize and manipulate spreadsheets. Experience with web or cloud-based applications[MN1] .

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university. Experience working in an academic/university environment. Working knowledge of university admissions, degree processes, and related paperwork/forms/etc. Knowledge of the Music field.
