Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) Assembles, installs, rearranges, maintains, operates, repairs, removes, inspects, and replaces electrical power transmission, distribution and streetlight systems; Maintains, installs, and repairs, overhead and underground equipment which can include high/low voltage conductors, padmount/pole mounted transformers, switches, elbows, and terminations; Climbs poles and structures and works from bucket trucks or ladders, works in manholes and underground vaults; Load, unload, handle, install and remove poles and structures; Works on energized lines, cables and equipment and operates cutouts, line switches, reclosers and other sectionalizing devices; re-fuses line and transformer devices; tests de-energized line or equipment and places or removes grounds; Installs, maintains, patrols, troubleshoots and switches residential and commercial overhead and underground distribution systems and reports any abnormal conditions; Uses fault finding equipment to locate and make necessary repairs to underground cable and equipment; Uses hot sticks for various distribution work; Installs, wires, cables, energizes, and troubleshoots single or three phase transformer banks on poles or padmount transformers; Installs regulator banks and energizes or removes them from service; installs, maintains, operates and removes capacitor banks from service; Connects, checks phase rotation, parallels and checks voltage on single and three-phase transformer installations; Operates mobile devices to enter time, materials, and view GIS mapping data; Drives and/or operates digger derricks, bucket trucks and associated auxiliary equipment; performs preventative maintenance and inspections of the vehicles or equipment, as needed; Oversees work and trains employees assigned to assist; ensures safety procedures are utilized, proper work methods maintained, and utilization of appropriate protective equipment; safely executes pole top rescue and other rescue procedures; performs all right-of-way control procedures. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a certificate of completion showing successful completion of the highest training level with the City of Columbus Power Distribution Line Trainee program. Substitution(s): Successful completion of a formal apprenticeship training program in power distribution or journeyman certification in power line work or closely related field may substitute for the required training. Possession of a valid Class A commercial motor vehicle operator's license allowing operation of vehicles with air brakes.
