Job Title: Family Liaison Reports to: Director of Student and Family Engagement Work Year: Academic school year Location: District-wide (Amherst-Pelham Regional Public Schools) Job Description: The Family Liaison serves as a vital link between families, schools, and the broader school district. Under the supervision of the Director of Student and Family Engagement, the Family Liaison supports families in navigating school systems, improving student attendance, accessing academic and social-emotional resources, and engaging with the educational programs offered by the district. This role works closely with school administrators, counselors, and support staff to ensure families receive the assistance needed to help their children succeed in school. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students' families and act as a point of contact for school-related concerns.
  • Support families in addressing barriers to student attendance, engagement, and academic achievement.
  • Assist parents/guardians in understanding school expectations, policies, procedures, and available programs and services.
  • Provide outreach through phone calls, home visits, and school-based meetings to support student attendance and participation.
  • Collaborate with school teams to identify students and families in need of additional support.
  • Refer families to appropriate school and community resources, including food assistance, immigration services, housing support, health/mental health services, and academic interventions.
  • Support family participation in school-based events, parent-teacher conferences, and workshops.
  • Work with school staff to create welcoming environments that promote family engagement and inclusion.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of contacts and supports provided.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and community engagement events as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student and Family Engagement.
Required Qualifications:
  • MA DESE Certification as School Adjustment Counselor or Guidance Counselor
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, human services, or a related field
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish
  • Experience working with families and diverse communities in educational or community-based settings
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills
  • Cultural humility and a deep commitment to educational equity
  • Ability to travel within the district and conduct home visits
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend hours to support family schedules
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in education, social work, counseling, or a related field
  • Massachusetts licensure or certification in a related area
  • Knowledge of local resources and community services in Hampshire and Franklin counties
Working Conditions:
  • Work is conducted in school buildings, family homes, and community settings.
  • Frequent travel across ARPS schools; mileage reimbursement provided per district policy.
  • Flexible schedule may include evenings or weekends.
  • Must be comfortable supporting families from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
