Salary: $26.44 Hourly Location : Beaumont, TX Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 5987 Department: Planning & Community Development Division: Building Codes Opening Date: 09/06/2025 Duties and Responsibilities Essential Job Functions:Works as a field person and makes detailed inspections of new and existing construction sites to ensure compliance with city ordinances; advises property owners and contractors on matters relating to building codes; provides advice and data to review boards on matters dealing with amendments of the building codes; maintains daily digital records of inspections performed. Other Job Functions: Performs other duties as required. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required. Working Conditions This position requires 100% on-site work. Works inside and outside in various types of weather; requires walking, climbing, stooping and bending; subject to physical injury while making inspections; Monday thru Friday 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Must be available to work overtime as needed. Contact with the public in the field, including oil well and building construction sites; possibility of injury while making field inspections around construction sites. Subject to extreme cold or hot outdoor temperatures, extreme heights, mechanical, explosives or electrical hazards. Subject to 24 hour on call. Minimum Essential Qualifications Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the major types of building construction, materials, and equipment; knowledge of the various stages of construction in order to detect possible defects; thorough knowledge of codes and regulations governing construction. Skills/Abilities: Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and blueprints; ability to recognize deviations from such plans; ability to explain and enforce regulations firmly and impartially; ability to present ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to organize and maintain files and records of inspections; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, city officials, contractors, homeowners, and the general public. Physical Requirements: Essential: Constantly sees and hears; frequently sits, reads, drives, walks, stands, answers telephone, uses foot pedal; infrequently holds objects weighing up to 40 lbs. and carries objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent; minimum three (3) years in a wide variety of skilled residential and/or commercial construction, including building inspections experience;; requires International Code Council (ICC) certification as Residential Building Inspector or ability to obtain within one (1) year from date of employment; ICC certification may be substituted for experience and education. Other This position requires 100% on-site work. Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
