Overview

Job title: Temporary Senior Vice President, Resource Development. Location: Washington, D.C. Industry: Nonprofit / Philanthropy. Assignment Type: Contract (Indefinite). Pay: $60–$80 per hour depending on experience. Work Schedule: Hybrid; two days onsite per week, with occasional evenings or weekends as needed.

Job Description

The Senior Vice President of Resource Development serves as the organization's chief fundraising strategist and a key advisor to the CEO. This role will oversee a high-performing team, drive long-term revenue growth, and establish strong national partnerships that sustain and expand the organization's mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a multi-year funding strategy to diversify and expand non-federal revenue streams.
  • Partner with executive leadership to align fundraising efforts with organizational strategy and long-term growth goals.
  • Build, strengthen, and steward strategic partnerships with top-tier funders, corporate leaders, and philanthropic organizations.
  • Lead and mentor a development team to achieve ambitious outcomes and measurable results.
  • Use data-driven insights to guide fundraising strategies, track performance, and report on outcomes.
  • Represent the organization nationally through speaking engagements, convenings, and thought leadership opportunities.
  • Ensure donor retention and long-term engagement through innovative stewardship strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced education preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive fundraising, resource development, or related experience, with at least 8 years in executive leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success managing large-scale fundraising strategies for organizations with budgets exceeding $100M.
  • Proven experience building organizational capacity, strengthening systems, and scaling fundraising operations.
  • Expertise in cultivating and maintaining relationships with high-level stakeholders across corporate, philanthropic, and nonprofit sectors.
  • Strong executive communication, data-driven decision-making, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a national nonprofit, network-based, or multi-sector environment.
  • Background in community development, affordable housing, or related sectors.
