The Patient Access Coordinator is the first point of contact for patients and their representatives, ensuring they receive a warm welcome and exceptional service. In this role, you will collect vital demographic and insurance information, ensuring accurate billing and reimbursement for the hospital. Your professionalism and commitment to patient experience will shine in every interaction.

Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8 AM - 5 PM

Location: 1 Norton Ave, Oneonta, NY 13820 (Fox Hospital Oneonta)

Receive 4-6 weeks of thorough on-the-job training tailored to your schedule.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Engage with patients and families in person or over the phone to facilitate the registration process accurately, collecting essential demographic data and health information while verifying insurance eligibility and benefits.
  • Utilize computer systems to enter and verify real-time patient data, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Gather clinical information and process referrals, pre-certifications, pre-determinations, and authorizations according to insurance plan specifications.
  • Confirm insurance coverage, benefits, and generate price estimates, performing reverifications as needed.
  • Handle patient co-pays respectfully, discussing their financial obligations openly.
  • Identify and attempt to collect outstanding balances from prior visits.
  • Directly collect data from patients and coordinate with provider offices to schedule appointments prior to hospital discharge.
  • Appropriately respond to patient and caregiver inquiries related to various topics with compassion and respect.
  • Generate, review, and analyze patient data reports, addressing any issues or inconsistencies promptly.
  • Maintain current knowledge of registration requirements across all departments, including Main Admitting, OP Registration, ED Registration, Maternity, and Rehabilitation units.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher).
  • 1+ years of customer service experience.
  • Ability to work onsite at 1 Norton Ave, Oneonta, NY.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience in scheduling and authorizations.
  • Healthcare experience and clinical knowledge.
  • Ability to work night and weekend hours.

  • Quickly build rapport, develop trust, and positively represent CRH in internal and external meetings.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.

  • Possess excellent customer service and relationship-building abilities.

Physical and Work Environment:

  • Be prepared to stand for long periods (10 hours) while using a workstation on wheels and phone/headset.
