Job Summary

The Pet Training Specialist at PetSmart is responsible for creating positive experiences for pet parents and their pets by delivering outstanding training services that align with our company's vision and values. This role involves engaging with pet parents, educating them on the benefits of training, and providing high-quality training courses in accordance with PetSmart's established curriculum.

Essential Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring a positive pet parent experience through various communication channels, including in-store, online, and via phone.
  • Proactively promoting and selling training classes to enhance the knowledge and skills of pet parents.
  • Educating pet parents about the advantages of our comprehensive pet training programs.
  • Maintaining accurate records related to pet training activities.
  • Acting as a training resource for fellow associates and promoting the benefits of training in the store.
  • Scheduling training classes as required by company standards.
  • Creating a safe environment for all participants during training sessions.
  • Ensuring cleanliness and presentation of the training area.
  • Recognizing associates for their contributions to promoting pet training.
  • Taking immediate action to assist sick or injured pets within the store, including transport to a veterinarian when necessary.
  • Recommending and selling relevant merchandise and services to enhance pet care.
  • Assisting in other store departments as needed, while contributing to a memorable customer experience.
  • Participating actively in our culture of belonging and recognition.
  • Adhering to all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of retail experience, preferably in a customer-focused setting.
  • Completion of the PetSmart Training Instructor Course.
  • Proficiency with various computer applications.
  • Ability to maintain composure and react calmly under pressure.
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The position requires standing, walking, climbing ladders, and using hands for various tasks. Associates need to be able to reach, stoop, kneel, and maintain effective communication.
  • Frequent lifting and moving of pets and equipment may be required, with weights up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more with assistance.
  • This role may expose associates to moving mechanical parts and a wet environment, with the presence of pet hair. Noise levels can vary, and contact with live animals is common.
