Position Summary Access Services is the first point of contact for CMLibrary customers, with theessential responsibility to connect customers with the resources of our libraryand to provide them with all the assets of an excellent library system. Thecustomer perspective is a driving force behind business decisions andactivities, as well as crafting and implementing service practices that meetcommunity expectations while supporting the Library'smission and values. The Library Assistant delivers a high level of qualitylibrary services ensuring the provision of value-added experiences for allcustomers and performs routine tasks in support of the library. Location: University City Regional Library: 5528 Waters Edge Village Drive |Charlotte, NC 28262 Schedule: Full Time Benefit Eligible, 40 hours per week Forty (40) hours a week, to include at least one evening a week(11am-8pm shift); rotating weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). The Library is open Monday - Thursday 9:00am-8:00pm; Friday& Saturday 9:00am-5:00pm; and Sunday 1:00pm-5:00pm Essential Functions Facilitate access to the Library's collection and services in a friendly andhelpful manner as the first point of contact Utilize Integrated Library Systemsoftware to create and access customer accounts to perform tasks such asaddressing account issues, processing fine transactions, and verifying accuracyof accounts and other database information Provide desk coverage - ensure servicepoints are fully staffed to support customer service, including Access(Circulation), Adult, Children, and Teen Services Actively participate in systemwide andlocal events such as Community Read and Summer Break to promote the Library as a community resource Perform routine activities: check in andprepare materials for circulation, run circulation reports, fillrequests/process holds, shelve by the Dewey Decimal System, weed material basedon condition and need, resolve and reconcile minor collection issues, etc. Use knowledge of system policies toinform customers of Library card use, guidelines and procedures, anddemonstrate critical thinking skills to resolve internal and external customerinquiries Educate customers in use of Libraryservices and develop self-sufficiency of the enhanced catalog, Library website,mobile apps (i.e., CMLibrary, Libby, Hoopla, Beanstack), online resources, andoperation of self-checkout stations Assist public with and troubleshootpersonal devices as it relates to Library services (i.e., apps and mobileprinting) Walk customers to/navigate areas of thecollection, engage in children's, teens, and adult readers' advisory, andassist customers in gaining access to both manual and computer-generatedinformation Update material records to enhancecatalog accuracy, address common database issues (i.e., barcodes, RFID tags,spine labels), and maintain a comprehensive selection of serials and newspapers Monitor library service areas for officesupply use and communicate purchase needs for requisitioning Conduct monetary transactions andexercise daily money management principles Lead activities related to branchopening and closing operations Report safety and maintenance concernsto appropriate channels of communication (i.e., maintenance tickets) Assist with training of volunteers andstaff Identify/troubleshoot/report technologyissues impacting access to services (i.e., IT tickets) Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Experience: Minimum of one year of customer service experience includinglibrary or retail. Education: High School diploma or equivalent Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?
