Job Title

The Office of the General Counsel at NYC Parks is offering an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented, organized individual to utilize research and records management skills and earn hands-on experience liaising with the various levels of city government and other divisions within Parks.

The successful candidate will be stationed at the Olmsted Center, Parks' Capital and Construction Headquarters, in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a liaison for the Capital Legal Division of the General Counsel's Office.
  • Process, research, track and respond to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests, requests from the Office of the New York City Comptroller and the New York City Law Department in relation to construction and capital projects.
  • Maintain and organize electronic and physical files, records, and databases.
  • Perform complex computerized research, enter data, and generate reports using custom databases.
  • Assist with resolving outstanding records issues; organize and maintain electronic records for the General Counsel's Capital Legal Division.
  • Correspond with various internal divisions and city agencies regarding legal issues.
  • Represent NYC Parks at meetings, prepare reports and take appropriate follow-up actions.

Work Location: Olmsted Center, Queens

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced education in library science or related area.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong customer service skills, attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Strong computer and database skills.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
