Position SummaryThe Full-time Library Assistant delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value-added experiences for all customers and performs routine tasks in support of the library. Located in southern Mecklenburg County, South County Regional is the county's busiest regional library. South County is a favorite destination for all ages, serving over 450,000 visitors and circulating one-fifth of the total materials for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library system yearly. The Library Assistant works with the branch team to create a welcoming and engaging environment for all patrons. The Library Assistant leads the branch in circulation activities such as the processing of a large volume of materials in a fast-paced environment.
Location: South County Regional 5801 Rea Road Charlotte, NC 28277
Schedule: Full Time Benefit Eligible, 40 hours per week Day shift - 8:00am 5:00pm. This position requires one closing shift per week -11am-8pm Rotating weekends including Sundays required - 8:00am 5:00pm
Essential FunctionsPerform circulation activities
Process large amounts of materials using a sorting machine
Provide service desk coverage
Provide materials to appropriate bins for transfer
Utilize integrated library systems software
Assisting customers at several service points
Promote the library's collection and services
Training and assisting customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes
Assisting with volunteer management
Perform shelving and weeding duties
Minimum QualificationsExperience: Minimum of one year of customer service experience including library or retail. Education: High School diploma or equivalent Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes
Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of integrated library systems software (IE: Polaris) Bilingual
