Learn more at www.mcla.edu Job Description: The Facilities Manager is responsible for the planning, direction and supervision of all day-to-day activities related to second shift operations, custodial care, and maintenance of campus buildings and residence areas. This position requires a flexible work schedule that can include weekends.
  • Plan the second shift maintenance and custodial care of campus buildings and residence areas.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate all second shift custodial staff. Manage attendance records, time away approvals and overtime for all supervisees.
  • Manage the purchasing and inventory control of equipment, furnishings, materials, and supplies required for the Operations and Maintenance area of Facilities Department.
  • Provide weekly reports to the Interim Assistant Director of Facilities Department.
  • Responsible for assuring timely communications with departments to give work status/updates.
  • Develop and implement staff training and development programs for Maintainers.
  • Prepare performance evaluations of assigned staff for Interim Assistant Director of Facilities review.
  • Work with Interim Assistant Director of Facilities and Human Resources to address performance and disciplinary matters, referencing appropriate areas of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Develop and maintain standards of service in assigned work areas and provide a basis for evaluating employees and their work.
  • Provide timely communications regarding work status updates to appropriate parties.
  • Conduct daily walk-throughs and inspections of the campus-wide areas, including residence halls, academic, faculty and administrative buildings. Appropriately address concerns and issues observed.
  • Respond to campus emergencies and critical incidents, as directed.
  • Participate in the Department of Facilities Management administrator on-call schedule, as assigned.
  • Ensure unit is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations, operating, environmental and safety procedures, and the College's policies and procedures including but not limited to HAZMAT and OSHA. Prioritize and distribute request (W.O.) and SchoolDude reports to facilities staff.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.
  • Requirements:
  • Knowledge of and experience with facilities.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in facilities management. Experience supervising in a collective bargaining environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with federal and state laws and regulations regarding safety; OSHA, EPA, HAZMAT, etc. OSHA 10-Hour training and certificate preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, promote and implement plans and proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to others, and especially to manage, supervise and motivate staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to express oneself professionally in written and oral communication.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and database systems for providing assistance in facilities management; inventory control, work orders, preventive maintenance, building automation, word processing and other departmental functions.
  • Experience on a residential campus or working within a residential environment preferred
  • Additional Information: This is a full-time, benefited position in the APA bargaining unit.
