About the Position During Fall 2025 Move-In week, WWU will welcome over 4,000 new on-campus residents. Traffic Attendant (TA) staff are paid positions that report to University Residences (UR) on Western's campus and work in conjunction with Parking Services and other UR team members to facilitate move-in activities into on-campus residential communities. TA staff assist in the management of parking by monitoring and directing the overall flow of vehicles arriving at Area Move-In Tents then continuing through residential communities ensuring that vehicle flow to unloading zone parking spaces is smoothly done supporting efficient transport of belongings to student living spaces by Western Welcome Team volunteers.We are seeking candidates who are interested in supporting this exciting endeavor and demonstrate the ability to work with diverse populations. Requirements include attending partial days for TA initial training on September 16 (Tuesday), Western Welcome Team training on September 17 (Wednesday), then performing related duties for three full days (8am-5pm) during Move-In Week, which will take place September 18 (Thursday) through September 20 (Saturday). Availability during all three (3) Move-In days is required. NOTE: The final schedule will be sent to selected candidates in early September 2025.Position Responsibilities: Lasting no more than five (5) days total from September 16-20, 2025, TA staff are responsible for assisting in the management of parking areas throughout the move-in process.Training: Study move-in plans, UR move-in procedures, and applicable campus policies.o Understand how the TA role operates in conjunction with Parking Services and UR teams.o Understand move-in plans, traffic flows, and procedures for assigned campus areas.o Attend training with Parking Services and Western Welcome Team members.Communication: Disseminate complex move-in requirements for traffic, people, and items.o Communicate directions to incoming / outgoing cars to ensure smooth traffic flow.o Interact with residents, parents / other family members, and staff in a positive, welcoming way.o Provide concise information to Parking Services and other TA staff via radio.o Promptly report any problems to designated authorities as they arise.o Explain move-in plans and traffic flow strategies to personnel as requested.Coordination: Monitor move-in processes.o Direct move-in traffic of residents / families around residential buildings and to common campus landmarks.o Monitor wait times for arriving cars and implement measures to improve the flow of traffic throughout the day.o Manage lines of cars and provide guidance to students, families, and visitors for the next phase of the check-in process.o Direct cars to long-term parking lots from check-in tent locations.o Provide directions to specific residence hall and apartment locations.Miscellaneouso Serve as a gracious greeter for students, parents, and families as needed.o Other duties related to traffic flow and parking processing during move-in.Lunch provided during training sessions and on move-in days.The State HR classification for this position is Parking Guide.Required Qualifications* Availability for TA initial training (September 16-17) and three (3) move-in days from September 18-20, 2025 (8am-5pm).* Commitment to equity and inclusion to enhance the welcoming experience for students / families.* Ability to lead and provide direction for administrative processes.* Ability to stand for long periods of time.* Experience in customer service.Preferred Qualifications* Previous experience working on campus housing at a college or university.* WWU alumni.* Must be available to work all shifts as assigned (no exceptions).* Experience working collaboratively on a team or in groups.* Ability to adapt and be flexible to frequent requests or changing needs.* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse range of people.* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.* Experience with completing tasks that require a high level of attention to detail.* Ability to work independently as well as in small teams, self-organize, and manage time effectively.* High familiarity with WWU departments / offices, resources and buildings around campus.* Ability to grasp and apply new concepts quickly and efficiently.* Experience providing peer-to-peer education or direction.* Experience with professional customer service or related service.Conditions of Employment All employees must comply with our Immunization policies, including Proof of Rubeola Measles Immunity within 60-days of hire.
