About the Role

MWH is currently seeking a Commissioning & Startup Manager. This position will lead the commissioning and startup of a wastewater treatment plant and future municipal projects. The role is site based, with potential relocation or significant travel for future projects. The ability to travel, including internationally, is required. You will provide commissioning services to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts.

Essential Functions

You will report directly to the Commissioning Director. Duties include:

  • Manage execution of commissioning and startup of a water or wastewater plant.
  • Maintain Health and Safety levels during commissioning activities and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Develop commissioning and startup strategy for construction and sequencing.
  • Manage a commissioning and startup team of ten or more individuals.
  • Provide mentorship, training and professional development for direct reports.
  • Read/interpret specifications for commissioning approaches with the project team.
  • Develop commissioning and startup schedule and budget for the project.
  • Develop written procedures for testing, cleaning and initial startup of major plant equipment and systems.
  • Lead the development of commissioning and startup plans.
  • Coordinate with client/vendor/subcontractors for startup; provide training materials for process plant equipment.
  • Adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems.
  • Assist in resource planning at the project level.
  • Document the commissioning process, including commissioning data and as-built documentation; provide input to OMs and feedback to design.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders; satisfy the customer as a key objective.
  • Participate in acquiring and storing business and technical knowledge and use of those assets.
  • Pursue continuous professional development through external networking and associations to stay current on industry changes.
  • Maintain a positive, solution-oriented approach and provide open and honest feedback.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably required and consistent with the role's level of responsibility.
  • Maintain a professional image and constructive relationships with internal and external contacts; protect confidentiality as appropriate.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Technology, Business Administration, Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in commissioning & startup and plant operations.
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience.
  • Experience in the water/wastewater industry or applicable industrial construction responsibilities.
  • Experience in wastewater facilities with treatment capacity of 100 MGD or greater.
  • Preference for operations and maintenance and/or commissioning and startup background.
  • Familiarity with asset management programs (e.g., Maximo) for vertical assets.
  • Proficiency in reading P&ID drawings including controls, PLC and SCADA information.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Understanding of methods for maintaining and repairing wastewater plant equipment and facilities.
  • Experience with operations and maintenance programs at water or wastewater facilities.
  • Understanding of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, Smartsheet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project) and SharePoint document management.

Compensation

  • The anticipated salary for this position is $185,000-$225,000 per year, depending on experience.
